About Us

Our Church History

What is now known as Stephen Temple Church of God In Christ, had its beginning in 1938 when Overseer Cleveland L. Anderson brought Elder B.T. Stephen to Mount Clemens, Michigan for the purpose of setting up a church. The first church was located inside a small store front on located on 80 Kibbee Street in Mount Clemens. A new and more permanent home was built at 68 Kibbee Street, which opened its doors in 1957. Superintendent B. T. Stephen passed away in 1983. Elder Stephen had a great foresight and made preparation during his lifetime to see that this congregation would not be without a pastor upon his passing. He tutored and groomed a young man who had his beginnings in this church in the person of Elder Theodore Colbert. Elder Colbert was saved at the age of 13 and served on various boards of the Church. When he was called into the ministry, he continued to work alongside Elder Stephen and was willing to be taught. As a result, he gained great experience and knowledge. When he assumed the position of Pastor in 1984, he already had firsthand experience and was qualified for the position. By faith he has led this church to different levels of faith. As Pastor, he makes sure that he lives up to his responsibility to preach, teach with understanding. He is a man with a vision, and because of this, the church has moved progressively forward under his loving and inspirational leadership over the years. During his administration, many ministries have been birthed for the edification of the Church and community at large. It is our leaders belief that recognizing Gods plan for the church is always larger than self. He developed and formulated the first massive building fund project, and secured the seven acre property for the church edifice. We acknowledge and applaud his contributions to our spiritual and personal growth over the years, and look forward to the continuation of the Lords work. Dozens of souls are brought into the Kingdom each year at Stephen Temple Church, A Judah District Ministry, through its many outreach ministries.

What We Believe

We believe the Bible to be the inspired and only infallible written Word of God.
We believe that there is One God; eternally existence in three Persons; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
We believe in the Blessed Hope, which is the rapture of the church of God, which is in Christ at His return.
We believe that the only means of being cleansed from sin, is through repentance, faith in the precious blood of Jesus Christ and being baptized in water.
We believe that regeneration by the Holy Ghost is absolutely essential for personal salvation.
We believe the that the redemptive work of Christ on the Cross provides healing for the human body in answer to believing in prayer.
We believe that the baptism in the Holy Ghost, according to Acts 2;4, is given to believers who asks for it.
We believe in the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling, the Christian is enabled to live a Holy and separated life in this present world, Amen.
